Sometimes you should act on Impulse!
What the new Impulse Valve technology means for you and your clients
Fike recently introduced a new technology to improve the performance and safety of its well known clean agent systems called the Impulse Valve. Fike systems will no longer utilize an explosive device for actuation.
The function of the clean agent fire suppression valve is to control the pressure within the agent container and the efficiency with which the agent is discharged. The new valve is really the best of both worlds because it combines the reliability and efficiency of a rupture disc with the flexibility of electric actuation.
The valve can be configured to operate electrically, pneumatically or a combination of both. It is capable of firing up to 6 cylinders on a single releasing circuit making it more cost effective to design and install. Finally, the efficiency of the rupture disc means longer pipe run capability and more flexibility in installation.
So, act on Impulse. This new Fike technology will:
Meet specifications for clean agent systems with non explosive devices
Provide for lower cost and greater flexibility in design, installation and maintenance

Novec 1230 is Clean and Green
Sometimes it’s hard to understand and distinguish between all your different clean agent options. There are a million names and numbers associated with each – why do they make it so confusing and what’s the difference between all of them anyway? There is however, ONE that clearly stands out in this day and time of heightened environmental awareness that is both clean and “green”.
Novec 1230 (AKA: FK-5-1-12 or Sapphire) is a clear, colorless and odorless fire protection fluid. That’s right. You read it correctly - “fluid”, as in liquid. However, this is no ordinary liquid. It is electrically non-conductive, it immediately vaporizes on discharge and it leaves no residue therefore qualifying as clean agent.
Further, it has an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0, a global warming potential (GWP) of 1 and a 5 day atmospheric lifetime (compared to the likes of other agents with lifetimes of 33 years). What does this mean? Novec 1230 is the cleanest, most environmentally friendly chemical fire suppression agent in existence.
If you are looking for not only a clean, but also GREEN, fire protection agent to protect valuable assets, Novec-1230 is the solution.

Combustible Dust and New Regulations are Serious Business
Dust Explosions are Fatal to You and Your Business
On a regular work day in February 2008, 14 people went to work and never came home. Instead, they lost their lives and 36 others were severely injured. The explosion and fire that occurred in a small town northwest of Savannah was fueled by massive accumulations of combustible dust throughout a packaging facility.
This catastrophe forced our industry and its leaders to re-focus on the dangers of combustible dust. Now, Georgia leads the nation in developing and enforcing combustible dust legislation.
As of July 1, 2010 all new and existing facilities that have operations involving the manufacturing, processing, and/or handling of combustible particulate solids MUST register with the Georgia Insurance Commissioner (www.gainsurance.org).
Your fire protection expert can provide consulting and testing services to help you classify your hazard and determine the best protection for your explosion hazard.
NFPA 654 suggests minimizing the danger and damage caused by dust explosions utilizing one or more of the following methods:
• Separation of the hazard (isolate with distance)
• Segregation of the hazard (isolate with a barrier)
• Deflagration venting of a building, room, or area
• Pressure relief venting for equipment
• Spark/ember detection and extinguishing systems
• Explosion protection systems
